Invest in Bega Valley::

Investment in Bega Valley Shire

The Shire is vitally aware of the need to maximise the region's capacity for economic growth.

This section provides a brief overview of the work being done.

Developing the Shire for a brighter future

There are several initiatives currently underway in the Shire, each designed to stimulate economic growth and sustain the local economy.

While predominantly dependent on agriculture, tourism and services, there is as yet untapped opportunity to grow and diversify the local economy.

The gross regional product-market value of final goods and services provided rose to $ 1 billion in 2011.

Another aspect pointing towards the increased economic activity in the Shire is the rise in the value of building approvals.

Building approvals nearly tripled in 2010-11 to $ 120 million compared with $35 million in 2007-08.

This rise in confidence and activity is attributed to the return of investors and the increase in construction, due to the opening of the Sapphire Marketplace in Bega town.
