Demographics & Statistics

Our City of Canterbury is one of the most culturally, socially and economically diverse communities in Sydney.

As a Council we tailor and target our programs and facilities to address the needs and wants of our residents and local businesses. We co-ordinate quality programs to meet our Access and Equity commitments and implement priority development projects including community safety, community events and multi-purpose facilities that are located within the City of Canterbury.

We do this by consulting with our community, but also by analysing the demographics of our area.

For further information, please contact 9789 9300. Alternatively, download the Social Profile Order Form(PDF, 122KB) to purchase this invaluable document.

Canterbury City Council Community Atlas/Profile and Economic Profile

Canterbury City Community Atlas presents key socio-demographic characteristics for the area as interactive maps. Based on data from the 2006 Census of Population and Housing (Australian Bureau of Statistics), each map is prepared using Census Collector Districts providing the finest level of detail to help identify spatial patterns and trends in the area.

Canterbury City Community Profile enables you to analyse the population characteristics of your community, understand how they have changed over time and how they compare to other areas. The profile presents data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Census of Population and Housing in 2006, 2001, 1996 and 1991 for the local government area, and for smaller areas within it (e.g. suburbs). The profile answers the majority of frequently asked socio-demographic questions and assists Council, the general public, students, community groups, organisations, business and investors to become more informed about the community.

Canterbury Economic Profile is an interactive economic profile informing you what drives our local economy. The reports and information have been designed to assist a greater level of understanding and informed decision-making regarding business opportunities. The economic data complements the demographic information available.
