Visit, Live & Invest in Snowy River::

About the Snowy River Shire

Snowy River Shire has a great climate and an ideal location.
The Snowy Mountains is developing rapidly. Our local government area is 6040 square kilometres comprising 11 residential areas and 7 resort villages.

The administrative centre of the Shire is the town of Berridale. The sub-alpine town of Jindabyne provides the main commercial centre for the southern Snowy Mountains resort area.

The town of Adaminaby is the service centre for the northern snowfield resorts and the starting point for those who fish for trout and are eager to test their skills in the rivers and streams or the enormous expanse of Lake Eucumbene.

Snowy River Shire was originally called Dalgety Shire. The town of Dalgety has a thriving community on the banks of the Snowy River and is home to many annual events including the Dalgety Show, Dalgety Women's Day and Dalgety Men's Muster.

Our permanent Shire population is in excess of 7 200, however this figure rises to around 20 000 in the winter months. Snowy River Shire boasts the fifth highest growth rate of all Local Government Areas in New South Wales and has the second fastest growth rate outside of the Sydney basin.
