Council's role in Economic Development

Council supports economic development by fostering greater investment and jobs growth in the LGA, sending a strong message that Wollongong is open for business.

Wollongong’s expansion will need to be facilitated through appropriate planning arrangements and infrastructure delivery, in line with the NSW Illawarra Regional Growth Plan.

Council has a direct impact on many aspects of business operations including planning, infrastructure and business support. Consequently, we can contribute to economic development by ensuring there are efficient planning processes and that the city’s public amenity is well maintained. These operational roles will encourage investment from the private sector.
