Morrison Government’s health funding helping Tasmanians::

The Morrison Government is boosting funding for Tasmanian healthcare, with a $91.9 million Tasmanian Health Plan that addresses healthcare needs and provides affordable and accessible healthcare, and an additional $25.6 million for the North and North-West*.

The facts are:

  • The commitment includes $34.7 million to reduce surgical waiting times by providing an additional 6,000 surgeries and endoscopies, and for primary care support for Tasmanians in rural and remote locations.
  • Endoscopies have been identified by clinicians as an area of need, and as part of the first tranche of funding, it is expected that 2,248 additional endoscopies will be provided to Tasmanian patients this financial year.
  • Surgeries and procedures are allocated and scheduled by clinicians based on clinical need, as is appropriate – they are the experts.
  • Importantly, this is a multi-year program and we’ll continue to work with clinicians to prioritise funds over the coming years, which is expected to include more elective surgeries and endoscopies, based on clinical advice.

The Department of Health is continuing to work with the THS to maximise timely access to elective surgery and all healthcare, including the continued rollout of our Women’s Health Package, along with the Australian Government’s commitments, and our $757 million six-year health plan.
